On September 17, 2010, the All Inclusive Care for Children Coalition is presenting Beyond Words: Redefining Loss
through Creative Approaches, an educational conference for families and professionals at the Turning Stone Resort and
Casino in Verona, NY. We expect
250-300 individuals to attend this event from across the state in a variety of human service professions. The
keynote presentation is the national presenter, Carla Blowey. Additional presentations will highlight areas
of complementary and alternative therapies, healthcare professions, cultural and spiritual healing, and other creative approaches
for working with individuals and families.
The keynote presentation is the national presenter and former editor of the
Living With Loss Magazine, Carla Blowey. Carla has gained insight, guidance and wisdom from her
dreams for more than 25 years. In 1991, at age 33, she entered the most painful and challenging time of her life when the
death of her five-year-old son, Kevin, and the nightmare that predicted it, forced her to re-examine her perceptions about
death, grief and the afterlife. Following the loss, Carla wrote “Dreaming Kevin: The Path to Healing”,
an inspiring testimony of the healing power of dreams in reconciling the death of a child. Carla was also
the coordinator for four years of Rainbows, a national children's grief support program, as well as co-founder and co-director
of Camp Good Grief, a children's camp sponsored by Hospice of the Uncompahgre Valley and Hospice of the Grand Valley in Colorado.
She coordinated and facilitated workshops and support groups for grief facilitators, bereaved parents and children using her
training with Rainbows and Attitudinal Healing. Carla is an exceptional and gifted speaker and has presented
programs at retreats, workshops and conferences on grief, dreams and healing, writing and publishing a book, and after-death
phenomenon. Carla presented her program Dreams: A Blessing in Disguise for Grieving Parents at the 2006 & 2005 Compassionate
Friends National Conference and the 2003, 2005 & 2006 Bereaved Parents of the USA Gathering.
Additional presentations will highlight areas of complementary and alternative therapies, healthcare professions, cultural
and spiritual healing, and other creative approaches for working with individuals and families.
